I am looking to model water droplets flowing in an oil pipeline, where the water concentration is roughly 5% by volume. The flow will be turbulent. The objective of the model will be to measure concentration of water as a ratio of concentration in the top and bottom halves of the pipe after passing through a static mixing device.
The level set method seems to be the better model for this situation, with it's explicit inclusion of surface tension, but will be computationally demanding relative to the mixture model. Will the mixture model be able to account for surface tension rather than just drag forces, or is there any way to implement surface tension into the model? Or would I be better off just letting the level set solutions run their course?
