Hi
I am trying to model a spiral coil in 3D. the coil wire is of rectangular cross section and tightly wound so that there is a very thin gap between windings and it is filled with epoxy.
It is not practical to try and mesh a thin gap so I built it with no gap and I am trying various boundary conditions but even in Stationary study the coil acts as if all windings are shorted ( I look at the arrow surface of the current density- the current runs radially instead of spiralling).
This is very different from the spiral inductors in the model library which have large air gaps between windings.
Eventually I will want to run in frequency domain.
I am interested not only in magnetic fields but also in electric fields that result from the voltage drop along the coil and
across a gap to a nearby grounded surface.
thanks for any suggestions
